Teresa Burt - The Quilt

Teresa with her Comforter

From the 01/14/2001 Hendersonville Ward Church Bulletin:

Not long ago, Teresa received a box of fabric squares from her mother, parts of an unfinished quilt which had been passed down to her mother from her grandmother after she was no longer able to perform quilting work. After Teresa’s mother passed away, she gave the remnants to Joan Luckett because she wanted someone to get use from them. Unknown to Teresa, the ladies in Relief Society gathered one day and finished the quilt. During the last progressive dinner, the Relief Society surprised Teresa with the finished product. It is signed by the Hendersonville Relief Society. She was so amazed!! It means everything to her.

The quilt is embroidered with "Hendersonville Relief Society".

On Saturday, 23 February, 2002, we met as a family to read Teresa's instructions about items she left to different family members. At the end of that discussion, I asked if there was anything specific anyone wanted. Sheina, her niece, asked for this quilt, because it was made of her grandmother's material. I prayed, took a deep breath, and gave it to her.

Since then, I have tried desperately to get it back from Sheina. Last time, Phillip asked for it and she said she would be keeping it to give to her children. Just another lesson for me - people can be so mean sometimes.
